Senior Nomination Program

Know a senior who would enjoy receiving a few letters? We want to know! Register your loved ones to receive cards from our Sunshine Senders!

Sending Sunshine’s Senior Nomination Program allows anyone to nominate a senior they know to receive cards from people around the world!

Each month our team will review the nominations and choose some to include on our website.

Then, anyone from around the world can read about each nominated senior and send a card to one or more of their choice.

The cards are sent to the nominator's address, who will collect the cards and deliver them to the senior they nominated!

August Letter Requests

Learn more about our nominated seniors and decide which senior(s) you’d like to send a card to. Cards should be sent by August 31, 2026. We post new seniors who want cards from you at the beginning of each month.

Happy writing!

A message from Urooj’s son:

"My Mom always tells us to pay it forward. She wants us to take care of ourselves before she can. If we were hungry, she gave me her food while she didn’t eat and told me everything was okay, I cried later that night. Mothers will sacrifice themselves for their kids, that's my why."

A message from Rosalie’s daughter:

"My Mom is 87 years old. Her name is Rosalie, she's from Shandaken, NY; however, she's currently located in Margaretville, NY. The night before Easter of 2026, she fell & broke her ankle. She was admitted to a rehabilitation/nursing facility to mend.  Unfortunately, while she was there mending, she was diagnosed with dementia. She's been admitted as a permanent resident because we cannot care for her at home. She was able to walk with a walker before her fall; however, she's bound to a wheelchair, and most likely, she'll never have the ability to walk again. She is a two-hour round-trip from my home. I work full-time so I don't get to see her as much as I'd like. She's very lonely and I think her spirits would be uplifted to know someone other than myself cares about her."

Volunteer With Us!

Did you know you can brighten someone's day and gain volunteer hours from the comfort of your own home through our Senior Nomination Program? Here's how:

01

Read about this month's nominated seniors and decide which one(s) you want to send a card to.

02

Write an uplifting message in the card and personalize it for the senior you have chosen. Be creative and tell them about yourself!

Please keep in mind that you can only write 1 card per senior!

03

Fill out our Volunteer Google Form to obtain your hours for the month. You should only submit the form once per month, even if you send multiple cards each month.

04

Seal the card in an envelope, write the applicable address, and include the correct postage/stamp. Please remember that the stamp needed may be different based on which country the senior lives in.

05

If you are sending your cards in a big envelope with your school chapter/club, please have your club leader email the following to nominations@sendingsunshine.ca:

  • A list of all the students who both participated in the captured submission

  • A photo of the envelope

Students will still have to fill out the Google Form to receive volunteer hours.
