International Federation on Ageing says, "the number one emerging issue facing seniors in Canada is keeping older people socially connected and active". Social isolation and loneliness is related to a reduced quality of life for seniors.

Sending Sunshine was among the groups awarded with a June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism. The annual Award ceremony recognizes outstanding achievements for voluntarism while making valuable contributions to communities.
